ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Since 2018, SASAI has been working diligently towards creating the LARGEST OUTDOOR GALLERY IN TEXAS™! This signature seasoned-artist program is a year round planning process that features an annual, large scale, one-day mural event. It brings together an all-star collection of artists to paint new walls in a designated area with each annual phase striving to connect with the previous phase geographically.
The goal? To create an exciting outdoor street art route that encourages patrons to get up, get out and experience San Antonio art! The route walls show off talented artists who have participated in our career development programming or who showcase a level of inspired success in their careers. Currently, this also serves as the benchmark program our teen developing artists strive to participate in.
This program not only beautifies neighborhoods, it also celebrates talent by bringing them together to network with like-minded creatives. Artists get to meet visiting artists from around the world, participate in high profile projects and rightfully be awarded with fair-pay jobs. With SASAI, no artist works for free!
With little to no design input from the sponsors, this program is known for advocating on behalf of the artist’s true aesthetic on walls. Allowing artist to paint what they desire allows artists to showcase their unique voice on a dynamic outdoor route of diverse styles. Time and time again, this program is a community favorite.
LOGIT WORKS IN PHASES.
CHECK THEM OUT BELOW.
LOGIT - PHASE I
THE SASAI PILLARS
During this phase, SASAI placed seasoned muralists with a long history of contributing to the community alongside newer street artists who brought fresh styles and techniques to the public art realm. Pepper in a few artists making their debut into public art and our mural world and you have Phase I of the “LARGEST OUTDOOR GALLERY IN TEXAS™”!
This phase served as a true example of a large scale SASAI art team, organically working together to create community, art, inspiration, motivation, and education. Phase I was so well received by the community and City leaders that it has been deemed “The Newest Landmark in San Antonio” and continues to exude positivity, inviting atmosphere, and a true urban experience while beautifying an area with artist’s true aesthetic and contributing ongoing positive impact.
LOGIT - PHASE II
2AM ON THE ST. MARY'S STRIP
Made up of a variety of live music venues, dance clubs, cocktail bars, gift shops, food trucks, and 5-star restaurants, this tight-knit group of local businesses and entrepreneurs make up the family and culture that calls itself the North St. Mary’s Strip.
Phase II successfully contributed to bringing day foot traffic to an area that usually associates itself with a vibrant nightlife primarily. The positive impact was immediate and noticeable as local businesses that typically miss out on the opportunity for day-business, found themselves with the newfound option to expand hours and cater to new spectators venturing out to enjoy the experience of SASAI’s mural street art.
Come nighttime, the St. Mary’s Strip whose nightlife is always abundant, experienced an amplification of business and excitement from patrons who lingered from the earlier hours or from additional patrons who ventured out for the evening to celebrate Phase II of the LARGEST OUTDOOR GALLERY IN TEXAS™.
Once again, artists were encouraged to show off their true aesthetic with no boundaries. It was a massive success with many artists expanding their resumes and contributing to the local art landscape.
LOGIT - PHASE III
COVID YEAR BRINGS NEW ART GALLERY
Everything changed and we all adjusted to being indoors. Luckily, we had the support of our friends at @LetsHopscotch and we moved the mural art indoors. Click below to see “Walls Within”, our mural art gallery at the award winning HOPSCOTCH Immersive Art Gallery.
LOGIT - PHASE IV
WE BACK IN BUSINESS!
THE MURAL CONNECTION SPONSORED BY PABST
The event happened April 27th and launched 10 new murals adjacent to Phase I and extending all the way into Southtown the Arts District! It connected two creative communities beginning at SAMA and spreading all the way into Southtown the Arts District to what was then, Pabst’s temporary Art Gallery located at 1112 S St Mary’s St, San Antonio, TX 78210. Double decker busses were there to help patrons receive safe rides back to their starting point and this marked our 60th mural contribution to San Antonio’s public art scene.
