OUR PHASES

THE LARGEST
OUTDOOR GALLERY IN TEXAS™

PHASE I: THE MURALS AT MIDTOWN

Phase I launched November 3, 2018, under the highway at St. Mary’s St. & Quincy and brought together 16 San Antonio artists of all backgrounds to create the newest landmark in San Antonio.

During this phase, SASAI placed traditional muralists with a long history of contributing to the community alongside newer street artists who brought fresh styles and techniques to the public art realm. Pepper in a few artists making their debut into the public art world and you have Phase I of building the “Largest Outdoor Gallery in Texas™”!

This phase served as an example of a true SASAI art team organically working together to create community, art, inspiration, motivation, and education. Phase I was so well received by the community and City leaders that it has been deemed “The Newest Landmark in San Antonio” and continues to exude positivity, an inviting atmosphere, and a true urban experience while beautifying an area with positive impact.

THE LARGEST
OUTDOOR GALLERY IN TEXAS™

PHASE II: 2AM ON ST. MARY'S

Phase II, occurred on the evening of March 30, 2019. The event launched 20 new murals adjacent to Phase I as SASAI continued to create The “Largest Outdoor Gallery in Texas™”!

Phase II spans across 13 city blocks down N. St. Mary’s St. inside one of the most popular areas for nightlife and live music in San Antonio, Texas. The St. Mary’s Strip is a multiple city block location just north of Downtown, made up of a variety of live music venues, dance clubs, cocktail bars, gift shops, food trucks, and 5-star restaurants. This tight-knit group of

business owners and entrepreneurs make up the family and culture that calls itself the North St. Mary’s Strip. Phase II of the “Largest Outdoor Gallery in Texas™” was free to the public with a goal of encouraging day foot traffic to an area that usually associates itself with a vibrant nightlife primarily. The positive impact was immediate and noticeable as local businesses that typically miss out on the opportunity for day-business, found themselves with the newfound option to expand hours and cater to new spectators venturing out to enjoy the experience of SASAI’s mural street art.

Come nighttime, the St. Mary’s Strip whose nightlife is always abundant, experience an amplification of business and excitement from patrons who stayed from the earlier hours or additional patrons who ventured out for the evening to celebrate Phase II of the “Largest Outdoor Gallery in Texas™”

To date, the positive impact of these murals continues to bring foot traffic to these local businesses contributing to economic development in this area and bringing awareness to local artists and artist advocacy.
